The Suburban Convertible

Toni Glanzer, an ER nurse at Weill Cornell Medicine, is a wordsmith by nature. In her poem, “The Suburban Convertible”, Toni paints the portrait of a woman who sees herself for who she truly is: joyous and full of laughter.

The Suburban Convertible

By Toni Glanzer, RN

Yesterday, as I was tooling down the pike, commonly called Route 117.........

All my windows opened magically and air swooshed in

The chunky red truck grew agile and daring........

Passing Volvo's and Beemers and causing much dust

The musical accomplice fueled the getaway, Janice Joplin urging me on

The rush was intense, the pulse rapid, the hair wild...........

And as I settled, downshifted into a great parking spot

The taste and sensation of my joy ride cast a warm glow.......

And as I rose up to peer down on the visceral below.........

I saw a vibrant woman Laughing
